Tommy Marshall, who had cerebral palsy, passed on. He and his family were greatly assisted in transitioning from public school to adult services by United Cerebral Palsy. Tommy's mother, Rosemary Marshall, saw the need for special assistance at the time of transition and established a fund to help others. Through this fund United Cerebral Palsy annually makes awards to young adults with cerebral palsy who like Tommy, require special assistance. PURPOSE:Our goal is to "bridge the gap" by assisting individual applicants who have Cerebral Palsy. These individuals can receive and enjoy a specific benefit, of equipment or services (which is determined reasonably necessary or beneficial to the applicant), and is otherwise unavailable to the applicant through his or her other available resources, such as Medicare, private health insurance, the public sector, or other generally available programs. An applicant need not be impoverished to benefit from the fund. An applicant may receive benefits from the fund only once. PROCESS:Once a year, funds from the trust are made available to youth with Cerebral Palsy from Prince George's County or Montgomery County who have graduated from high school within the past two years. Applicants complete an application form. Trustees of the fund evaluate all applicants and inform each applicant of the yearly awards. APPLICATIONS:Applications are available from United Cerebral Palsy. To receive an application you may make any of the following contacts: DUE DATE: Applications for 2008 are due by June 30, 2008.
